LiFe iN tHe OPERATING ROOM

Operating room management is the science of how to run an Operating Room Suite. Operational operating room management focuses on maximizing operational efficiencyanaesthetists or the scrub nurses that are needed next week to accommodate the expected workload or how can we minimize the cost of drugs used in the at the facility, i.e. to maximize the number of surgical cases that can be done on a given day while minimizing the required resources and related costs. For example, what is the number of required Operating room? Strategic operating room management deals with long-term decision-making. For example, is it profitable to add two additional rooms to the existing facility? Typically, operating room management in profit-oriented health-care systems (e.g. USA) emphasizes strategic thinking whereas in countries with publicly-funded health care (e.g. the UK), the focus is on operational decisions.

  1. Even cardiothoracic surgeons, who are characteristically fearless in facing their patients' complex problems decisively, may sometimes find it hard to be equally resolute when confronting certain challenges in their personal lives. In particular, some surgeons are deeply apprehensive about the prospect of retirement, particularly as it involves making a transition to life outside the operating room.

Life in the operating room is, after all, a strange and unusual existence. The O.R. is a stage on which the surgeon performs in the spotlight, while exercising unquestioned authority, and marshalling the talents of many individuals who are dedicated to facilitating his (1) work. The O.R. is also a haven where the cares of the outside world don't intrude.

  2. Being part of the operating room team is exciting. Nurses in this field provide care and support to patients before, during, and after surgery. These nurses are responsible for maintaining a sterile environment in the operating room, monitoring the patient during surgery, and coordinating care throughout the process. They are also responsible for making sure the OR team provides the patient with the best care possible.

  3. When i read this topic, it gives me an idea and additional information about in OPERATING ROOM. I picture out the set up. An operating room is designed and equipped to provide a specialized care to patients with specific conditions. The nurse is responsible of arranging things, such as maintaining the area sterile, the instruments are already prepared for a surgery, And that's the time all personnel or the members of a surgical team are required to wear their mask, gowns, caps and other coverings to prevent spread of germs..

  4. as what i observe you must be more knowledgeable and to know what kind of materials do you use. because you must be responsible to care and to cure our patient... ask a nurse you must gain more knowledge and to save time and energy....

  5. Being an O.R. nurse, is a tough job compared to other nurses assigned in other hospital areas. Our concern and main responsibility is to maintain a sterile environment inside the O.R. to prevent the spread of microorganism that may cause harm among all the members of the surgical team, specially the patient that should be provided the best care. We work all around before, on , and after the surgery to ensure patient's comfort and safety. Not only that, an O.R. nurse must know how to manage the Operating Room, specifically on how to minimize the use of the O.R. facilities, as well as to maintain its good condition.
An O.R. nurse must be knowledgeable and skillful enough. He/ she must know all the concepts and responsibilities, as part of our life inside the Operating Room.

As i read the article, i was somehow amazed with what life it would be inside the operating room.for me, as student nurse, i have a bit fearful and intimidating experiences inside the room.i have witnessed some procedures that i myself have never interfere before.job on operating room is a very crucial. it must acquire enough knowledge, skills and advocacy to make procedure successful. we are in between life and death when we make the procedure/operation.and not only inside the operating room will we render our utmost care but it will be a continuous intervention outside for the fully recovery of the patient. life as a nurse, especially OR nurses is not an easy job, because we are dealing lives.

For this article,i would say life in the operating room is not easy than the other department in the hospital. because you need to be more knowledgeable and skillful enough to this department, you must be focus your attaintion in your job because we are handling the lives of the patients.the other thing is the attitude the very most important thing in handling our clients inside the operating room to provide comfort to challenge them to be strong in this matter.

In doing this job, you must be put always "GOD is the center in our hearts" and think positively in your work. and of coarse you must be maintained sterility inside the operating room.

  10. On a part being an OR nurse,it's hard, because we are dealing in ones life.We don't know what will be the outcome inside the OR,we don't know what will be the risk.OR nurse is there to comfort them spiritually, physically and mentally.
Inside the OR you should always be anticipated, and open your mind. But the most important thing that an OR NURSE should always do is the sterility matter.they are responsible for that. It's hard on there part but they do what is there job for.
But always remember that GOD is there helping them.

As an OR NURSE it is a crucial and not an easy task because we are dealing between life and death of our patient in which we should be knowledgeable enough in maintaining the STERIILTY inside the operating room. For me, life in the OR is a very stressful and at the same time, happy job. Why I say so?...because inspite the long hours of standing everytime there are operations, recording and having duty, it is amazing to fell that you are doing all of that hardships for others whom you don't know and not even related from you. I'm very much happy and blessed that I have this profession that I have the opportunity to help and be able to save lives which I can't find to other jobs.

Thank you God for leading me this way and hope you will always guide me and protect me in everything I do. I hope also that You give me the strength and courage and be always hungry to help and give smiles to people I care for.

  18. Being a member the Operating Room team was very challenging and exciting. Nurses provides holistic care for the clients before, during, and after the surgery. They helped clients alleviate their anxiety in preparation for the surgery. As a student nurse, exposing to this kind of area was a great privilege to us because they trained us to become a good and skilled OR nurses someday.

It is really a big challenge that we need to face with knowledge, skills, and attitude. Being a member of the OR team is not that difficult, rather its too risky..

  19. When I read this article I actually remember my experienced in the operating room. At first I was excited but at the same time anxious because of the fact that I’m not yet familiar with the things that especially the instruments of the different surgery until I slowly became acquainted with it.
I understand that life in operating room has the collective passions of surgical team and the patient. All the surgical team focuses only on patient’s welfare. The surgical team accomplishes this by creating and maintaining the sterile field and by following aseptic principles aimed at preventing microorganisms from contaminating the surgical wound.
In any other areas in the hospital, operating room is the most crucial areas were all the members in the surgical team must be equipped and since the patient is the center of the sterile field, all personnel moving within or around a sterile field should do so in a manner to maintain the sterile field and patient at risk for infection.

The life in the operating room deals with patients life’s so everybody in the surgical team must use their knowledge and experience in aseptic practices to provide their patients with optimal care resulting in positive surgical outcomes.

  23. Everything about the Operating Room is fascinating. Gazillion of instruments: some are huge, some are tiny, few are delicate and a lot of sharps. Blood in there, organ down here --- every little thing in your body is revealed to be scrutinized. Horrible it seems, is it? But I just love looking those vital organs in our body exposed. and yeah, it's a big WOW! on where did our body got a room for that thing here or that thing out there. Can you just imagine how on earth our body tends to carry all of that? We are indeed 'specialized' beings created by GOD with its utmost complexity. And we should thank HIM for that.

And wait! there's more. Sterility never loses its job there. Your senses should be activated, unless you want to get scolded by one of the SURGICAL TEAM MEMBERS. You get to hold stuffs: It's weird yet lovely having the opportunity to hold a part of your internal organs. Stressful yet great. :]

Life in the OR is not simply getting cases just to fill your case notebooks or just being a part of the SURGICAL TEAM. It's beyond that. It's beyond what skills can do. It's beyond what minds can perceive. It will always be a passion, an art, a devotion, a love.

  25. Operating room nurses or surgical nurses are primarily responsible for keeping the operating room organized and clean for surgeons and their patients. They are responsible for assisting surgeons during the extremely stressful operations and surgeries in the operating room (OR).An OR nurse will be responsible for finishing operations through sutures and clean up routines.

Starting an OR nurse job is a fantastic stepping stone to reach higher positions in the hospital such as operating room director, nurse manager or certified RN assistant. If you will notice, the steps for becoming an OR nurse basically involve hard work and patience.

Operating rooms are an important part of a hospital and allow surgeons and other operating room staff members to provide life-saving treatments to patients. Setting up an operating room properly can help assist health care providers by allowing them to work in an efficient and timely manner, which is critical when performing life-saving procedures. Organized operating rooms give health care providers the opportunity to focus on procedures and treatments and offer a safe and friendly environment for them to work in.

The procedure done in the OR must be sterile. The OR doctors and nurses do their responsibilities. Accuracy, teamwork and sterility, the three things that are very important in the OR that i learned.

Life is the operating room is not an easy job as we ought to know. It is a very extremely exhausting work and hours can be grueling that sometimes last up to 24 hours. Every seconds counts in the operating room and you must be extremely efficient and be able to prioritize wisely.

Most of the times, doctors yell at you everytime something is missing or something goes wrong and everything will be your fault the instant it happens, because there is no room for a mistake in the operating roo.

An Operating Room nurse should be efficient in her work and should have proper decision making.

  31. for my point of view, to become a nurse is very tough profession or job to do! you ask me y? its because as a OR nurse, is the one who controls everything. Like for example the OR nurse is the one maintaining the sterility of the OR, cleaning the used instruments after the surgery and bring them to the autoclave machine to make them sterile again and also making sure that the operating room is always ready and equipped with complete instruments to be used in the future surgery... so only the nurse can do everything....

  32. After reading the article about operating room nurses, I had felt my blood rushing through my veins. In fact by reading the article urges me to pursue on what i have dreamed on, to be come an OR nurse. Based on my points of view, operating room nurses had so many job description now a days, you can easily choose what ever you might want to be as long as it is part of "operating rooms" juries diction. Meaning to say every body must be happy, because who knows it might be the solution of the population crisis of the nurses in our country and over abroad. But to pay as credit for those master in the operating room, being an operating room nurse is not an easy job, it complies skill, patience and presence of mind because one mistake may take ones life. so to sum it all, i salute the OR nurses, two thumbs up.
